I've seen a few posts on making mods, but quite a few players still seem unaware of how to install them outside of using Aslain's excellent mod installer.

Like in World of Tanks, World of Warships features a mod folder for you to place modded game files without needing to replace the actual game files. If you've downloaded a mod (or made one of your own), use these steps to figure out where to put the modded files and have them work, without replacing the original (and risk losing files or breaking something somewhere). Figure out where in the res folder the original file is. For instance, if you want to mod a flag, the flag files are located in (your World of Warships folder)rescontentgameplaycommonflags. Now look at your World of Warships folder.

Next to the res folder, there should be a folder named resmods. Inside it should be a bunch of folders named for the various game versions. Look for the folder that corresponds to the current game version (Right now, its 0.4.1). Create a bunch of folders that mirror exactly what is found in the res folder for the mod you want to install.

So, for example, if you want to install a flag mod, place the modded flag files into resmodscontentgameplaycommonflags, or if you want to mod the login video, place the modded video into resmodsguivideo. Whenever the game updates, it will create a new folder named after the current game version.

Just drag your mod files from the old mod folder to the new one after every update. To get the mods to work, you'll also need to edit the paths.xml file in the main folder. Some modders will provide the paths.xml for you to overwrite with, but in case that doesn't happen, just make sure paths.xml reads like this resmods/(version of the game)resReplace '(Version of the game)' with the current game version. Currently, it's 0.4.1By installing the mods in the resmods folder rather than replacing files in the game folder, this should help reduce the risk of losing important files, or accidentally breaking your game somewhere. Something I've begun to notice quite a bit in games is the marginal to absent variation of 'mods' that simply provide a better GUI or more information to those that actively give a distinct 'cheat' advantage. For example, superior range finding and fine tuned target reticle display vs. Being able to actually target and track ships through multiple land masses or smoke screen cover and fire on them accurately. So before you download a mod, examine the changelog closely, is it an enhancement, or a outright advantage/cheat?

It's clear only the player base will police themselves when it comes to the 2nd. I've done everything you mentioned yet nothing is working for me. That is if what exactly you're saying is to enter the resmods folder then enter the 0.4.0.6 folder and create a folder named 'resmods' enter that folder and create a folder named 'content' enter that folder and create a folder named 'gameplay' enter that folder and create a folder named 'common' enter that folder and create a folder named 'flag' enter that folder and drop the mod file into it. Thats what I did with the flag mod and still it's unchanged. I did the same for a loading screen mod resmods/gui/flash and the same with a login video mod resmods/gui/video.

In fact I no longer have a login video for WoWS. I got my mods from Team20.3cm because I like anime mods. My WoT game had a japanese anime voice mod until recently now I can only find Girls Und Panzer which is fine I guess.Am I doing something wrong or are the mods effected by WG's encripted patch thing everything is ranting about?. That is if what exactly you're saying is to enter the resmods folder then enter the 0.4.0.6 folder and create a folder named 'resmods' enter that folder and create a folder named 'content' enter that folder and create a folder named 'gameplay' enter that folder and create a folder named 'common' enter that folder and create a folder named 'flag' enter that folder and drop the mod file into it.That is not what I'm saying.resmods is a folder that already exists in the main game folder, in the exact same directory as the res folder, and the game.exes. Click on that resmod folder, and it'll open up a bunch of folders named for the different game versions. The current game version is 0.4.0.6.

Open up that folder, then create the tree that duplicates what is in the res folder. There is no need to create resmods and the version folder again because that's already there and you're already in that directory. Login video for example - res/gui/video is the original folders, so you recreate it in the 0.4.0.6 folder.
