MUI and LIP language packs in Windows 7–––- ––––- ––––A – You write « The default language is always English and other languages can be installed manually ».1.
Actually, from what I can guess from the according Microsoft pages (which are just are imprecise, variable, unreliable as usual), the “default language” (actually “parent language” in Microsoft parlance) is English in SOME versions like the English ones sold in USA, Australia or UK, but it is NOT in many other versions like French, Hebrew, Chinese, German. Details in link A4 above.2. Again according to.my. guess.of Microsoft., “other languages” can NOT “be installed manually” when they require a parent language which is NOT installed.B – Clarifying (or trying) the 2 different sorts of language files in Windows 7:1. An LP (Language Pack), also named (even in Microsoft’s own documents!!) “Parent Language”, “Base Language”, “MUI Language Pack”, installs ONE particular “parent” language in Windows INTERNALLY, and will cause Windows to display, in a fast and reliable manner, MOST OF the interface in that parent language.2. An LIP (Language Interface Pack), also named “LIP Language Pack”, can only be installed ON TOP of an MUI pack and makes an EXTERNAL TRANSLATION of PART OF what that MUI has installed. More, each LIP is written for just ONE parent language and only works on top of the according MUI.Details:3.(A chart showing clearly what edition or parent language of Windows 7 is required to install the language you want)4.Versailles, Fri 24 Apr 2015 10:11 +0200.
Windows 7 Ultimate, Enterprise are Multilingual, Professional is NOT–––––- ––––– -––––- –––––-A – You write « make sure that you are using Windows 7 Ultimate, Professional or Enterprise editions because these language packs can only be installed in these editions ». Actually, support for Multilingual User Interface (MUI) packages is included only in Ultimate and Enterprise editions, NOT in Starter, Home or Professional. This point is important since most laptops come with Professional installed. For details see:1.2. (then Ctrl+F “lang” then “Multiling”)3.
